Description of the genus

Derivation of name: Referring to Epiphora, a genus described by Lindley in 1836, which is now considered a synonym of Polystachya. Several species now in Epiphorella were classified by Lindley as belonging to Epiphora.

Worldwide: 11 species, mostly West and Central Africa, just reaching western Zambia and one species in Malawi and Mozambique.

Zambia: 1 taxon.
