Description of the genus

Subshrubby herbs or shrubs, completely softly tomentose, mostly much branched. Leaves opposite, or less often in whorls of 3, shortly petioled; stipules with triangular or sheathing connate bases and subulate appendages. Inflorescence relatively large subsessile or shortly pedunculate, dense, cymes. Calyx tube globose with a short limb or short, triangular teeth. Corolla thick, cylindric or obovoid; mostly yellow or greenish, densely tomentose; tube cylindric; lobes reflexed, obtuse or shortly apiculate. Fruit drying back, globose, crowned with the calyx limb, sometimes ribbed, containing (3)4–5 pyrenes. Pyrenes thinly woody. Cotyledons very much shorter than the radicle.

Worldwide: Three species, mostly in D.R. Congo.

Zambia: 2 taxa.
