Description of the genus

Tree to 25 m tall; stipule intrapetiolar, enfolding the bud; leaves pinnate, leaflets in 4−7 pairs; pod compressed, comma-shaped, the single large seed attached to the papery endocarp of one of the valves, serving as a parachute.

Worldwide: c. 9 species in Africa, 1 in the Flora Zambesiaca region, 1 in Zambia
