Description of the genus

Trees; leaves paripinnate, leaflet sessile, very asymmetric, leaflet pairs 1 in A. richardsiae, or many (c. 12) in A. trapnellii; flowers in dense racemes, petals 1−5 but only one fully developed; pods glabrous or glabrescent.

Worldwide: c. 14 species in Africa, 2 species in the Flora Zambesiaca region, 2 species in Zambia.
